What's good Vanimo?
It's time to surf at this northern border town in Papua New Guinea. The Vanimo West Coast is where you will find the best waves to do a left hander or a right hander- just 10 minutes drive after you land in Vanimo.
Surfing began in about the late 1980s by young kids in Vanimo using wood crafted surf boards. This attracted the attention of the surfing enthusiasts like Andrew Abel.
To cut the long story short, Mr Abel assisted to purchase manufactured surf boards and offered to the local boys.

When Christmas arrives, it's surfing time at this area. Tourists flock to Vanimo with their surf boards to catch the waves. They lodge at hotels and lodges in Vanimo and Vanimo village, just across the bay looking west from Vanimo.
