Remembering the Aitape Tsunami

 On Tuesday 17 July at about 7.05 pm it will be exactly 20 years since a great tsunami struck the Aitape West coast, causing shock and confusion, and leaving more than 1600 people dead and more than 1000 injured. Please remember these brave people and the many who came to help and rebuild after the event. We are proud of you. And please remember a big lesson from the 1998 event, that we need to maintain awareness and preparedness of tsunami hazard, to know the warning signs and how to prepare and respond.
