PNG experiences increase in violence using mobile phones

The Censorship Office says, there's an increase in violence using mobile phones and internet in Papua New Guinea, with girls and women mostly targets.

It states, this can take many forms like online harassment, cyber-bullying and even femicide or a man killing a girl or woman.

Chief Censor Jim Abani says, his office and that of the National Secretariat are working together on plans to fight this serious issue.

Meanwhile, the Censorship Office has started programs to help youth deal with material like movies or those online, that can harm them.

Deputy Chief Censor,  Ilikomau Freda Ali says, the programs target school children.

She says, they want to educate young people about the dangers of such bad material and how to avoid them.

Ms. Ali says, they're ready to roll out this plan but money is a problem.
